Fascinating....Loveless was a modern master and I've looked at his knives for years. Finally got around (and the $) to being able to buy a few - and they are wonderful! The book therefore is extremely helpful especially for collectors. Not sure you will be able to actually build a knife, since like many books of this sort, they gloss over the fact that you have to be an expert mechanic /artist in the first place....I'm not gonna make any knives, but I truly got a better understanding of how knives are made, what is the process, what goes into them. The photographs were excellent too. Well worth the money.

This is a great book about Bob Loveless, and a really good book about how knives are made. I bought it because I wanted the data on how to make knives, which is where the 4 of 5 stars came from.

Great book about a great hobby. many good ideas.

I enjoyed he read. It has insights to his earlier life. If you have any interest in Loveless I would recommend this.

I love Bob and his work! This book is a great book if you want to know more about the way Bob makes his knives. One thing I do not like about this book is the fact that the editor or writer have no clue about knives. There are so money type-o' that it is a bit irritating. Like in one photo the author is describing a knife and say's it has a nice wooden handle when in fact it is Micarta and not wood. Other than these little things this is s great book!

The book covered Bob Loveless throughout his knife making years. I was written well. I liked the way Loveless was more about making a good knife than a show piece.

This is an excellent book for learning leadership skills for the corporate world. Not so for the small business company. I did find one or two ideas that might work for the company I’m currently with.However, as the last chapters came about, I felt the message was being lost. The first six or seven ideas were spot on. The book should have ended here and it would have been a home run. Instead it continued on and the ideas started to become watered down, lessening the impact. I’ve many of these self-help, motivational, team-building works and for whatever reason, they seem to follow the same formula. My question is why? Why do they continue watering down the main message?Overall, it’s a good read. The comparison of Shackelford’s accomplishments in the harshest, most hopeless situations and how he managed his team were easily translated into today’s world of corporations and middles size companies.

Perkins gives a detailed account of the incredible lengths that Shackelford went to in order to save his men. He had a lot of great qualities as a leader, there are a lot of lessons that can be learned from his experience. He wasn't perfect, and no other leader is, either. However, the context of adversity that marks an expedition like his puts everything they do under a microscope, which magnifies the flaws as well as the successes. This is a great study in great leadership.

This book was assigned reading in a leadership class I attended. To be honest, I wasn’t looking forward to reading another dull leadership book. Boy! Was I surprised! Not only did I love the book, I loved it so much I bought it on Audible Books so my husband could listen to it while commuting to work. I highly recommend

Although primarily directed at managers, this book contains timeless concepts that work well whether leading yourself, a team, or leading upwards and sideways. Although the pressure we face in the corporate world is not life threatening, it is nonetheless very real and at times intense. I believe that Perkins’ ten principles are a great foundation on which to base leadership behavior. Well written and captivating, I have found this book to be an invaluable resource!

A fantastic text based on an epic journey. The history of Shackleton's ill-fated expedition is a sharp contrast to the modern view which epitomizes personal liberty as the highest virtue.This book features vignettes from an expedition faced with nearly insurmountable odds that highlight the difficult choices faced by Shackleton and his men. In the face of adversity, they managed to endure, though not without cost. Perhaps the most moving part of the narrative is knowing that, after he and a few of his men made it (barely) to the safety of a remote whaling outpost, he insisted on mounting numerous rescue attempts for his other stranded crew-mates until they were successfully extracted.I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether or not you are involved in business management. As a father, I found many of the examples and stories inspirational, and I have shared them with my children to teach them the virtues of perseverence and the responsibilities of leadership.

Dennis was interviewed about this book on FoxNews, and he was captivating with his story of Shackleton and what he learned of leadership.Perkins has applicable background, in Vietnam and management consulting and teaching which make this book doubly fascinating.I found his style and wit so easy to read and yet remember the points being made. There are many one can take away from this and use, however two that stand out in my mind are: great leaders don't enter knowing everything, e.g. Shackleton had never even slept in a sleeping bag before, much is learned; second, in At Edge experiences, overcome uncertainly with structure and distractions.So much more could be said about this excellent contribution to leadership. It is well structured with Shackleton's lessons first, then biz cases which are each unique and contribute to illustrations of these leadership lessons. After each section there is reflection, while at the book's end, more intense follow-up excercies and resources to be pursued.One great leadership adventure!

This is a good book that combines a good mix of telling the Shackleton story along with practical leadership insights. At first I was not sure I would like the book at all but I found the book gets better and better as it develops. Throughout the book the author draws insights from Ernest Shackleton's leadership of the Endurance expedition that illustrates them by pointing to business examples and this helps to tie everything back together. This is not my favorite book on leadership, and I would hesitate to recommend it unless the reader is interested in the story of the Endurance expedition.

Oh Shackleton, we started living at the edge after reading this book. I really found it useful!!!

This is a cute book for the fairy lover's in your life. Makes a great gift as well.

The author, Liza Gardener Walsh, has created a hybrid cooking and craft book. My only complaint is the lack of clarity when it comes to using edible ingredients versus inedible ingredients. At the beginning of her book she writes about creating "fairy soups" in her backyard which I presume was not "real" cooking as the ingredients were not meant for eating. In fairness there are sections of the cookbook where she warns young cooks about selecting safe food ingredients.I do believe her book would have been far better if she had focused on either writing a cookbook or a craft book. Her attempt to to do both muddled the issue.At the end of her book you'll find a chapter called Mud Pies. This chapter is a perfect example of lack of clarity.When it comes to imagination and play her book is superb. I loved the fairy drawings, her ideas on how to present a tea party, and I loved the color photos strewn throughout her book.I would highly encourage parents to supervise and explain how to use her book.I'd give her book 5 stars for creativity and 3 stars for implementation.Recommend with caveats given.Review written after downloading a galley from Net Galley.

Every little girl dreams of the make-believe world of fairies, and loves to participate in fairy-themed parties. Fairy House Cooking: Simple Scrumptious Recipes & Fairy Party Fun! includes plenty of recipes and ideas for a perfect make-believe party, and the recipes are not only easy enough for kids, but are dishes that kids are sure to like.There are suggestions on keeping the kitchen clean, kitchen safety, notes to parents, and cooking tips. Each recipe is rated according to difficulty. There are picture of most of the recipes, along with fairies making and eating them.Some of the recipes are everyday recipes that most of us are familiar with, such as muffins, scones, a puffy pancake, and morning glory muffins. The recipes have been given a “fairy” twist, however, to make them fun for kids to make. One recipe, Speedy Garden Patch Cake, is known to many as Wacky Cake or a similar name, and can be whipped up in about 6 minutes. Walsh adds dirt, worms, and flowers for the fairy element, and the finished cake is almost magical as well as delicious. There is a recipe for Candied Violets (wasn’t there a cake with candied violets in one of the Harry Potter Books?) and uses for edible flours. The book includes an excellent, flaky pie crust recipe that can be used for a scrumptious blueberry pie and miniature plum (or peach) tartlets. Also, an easy Apple Crisp as well as some no-bake confections such as Bird’s Nest Cookies and Fairy Wands.Little girls (and some boys) will consider this book magical and will want to make every recipe in the book to serve at a fairy tea or just for fun on a leisure afternoon. The recipes are easy, succinct, and easy to follow. Although it is always recommended that an adult be present when kids are cooking, the recipes are easy enough for kids to make by themselves, and most call for simple ingredients that are already in the fridge, freezer or on pantry shelves.Fairy House Cooking: Simple Scrumptious Recipes & Fairy Party Fun! is a magical book with great pictures, great recipes, and great ideas for kids to entertain. It would make an excellent gift and addition to any cookbook collection.

It is jam packed with recipes, with clear directions, colorful photographs and delightful little tidbits giving insight into the fairy world. They are sandwiches, sweets, breakfast food and edible flowers. Something for everyone. Not every recipe had a photo of the finished product but there are many that do.The Purple Power Puffs and Edible Fairy Houses were favorites of mine as well as the chapter on Recipes for the Fairies &Friends that are for play only but include mud pies. Not really a child’s book but for anyone who wants to have fairy food fun with children as their assistant.The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

A delightful book for all! I enjoyed the fairy "food" and then the real food, It was fun to have created food with my daughter. We really enjoyed working through each recipe. Thinking of fairies calls upon imagination and I enjoyed the variety of unique ideas that came with this book.It is one to do with your children not send them out alone to do, and I feel like that was the message the author wanted to give " become a child again, find the magic".

This is a good, basic book about Thomas Jefferson that goes a little bit deeper than an early reader. It's more of a beginning chapter type of book. It covers the basics of his life and is done in an easy-to-read way... but I just found it somewhat dry to read. Still, it's a good book for those being introduced to history. Nothing controversial in it, I felt like the author was fair.This book was recommended to me for my child's third grade history, so I decided to read it first before I handed it off to her. So comparing to many of the other history books I've been reading (a good 30 or 40 of them!), I definitely found this one a bit boring and dry. Which is why I gave it four stars instead of 5. But still, all around a good book that I could recommend.

However much I thought this book would help us dig in to a bit of history thus book did its job. However don't be surprised when you kid recalls details like how Jefferson built his house and his family details instead of anything to do with the Declaration of Independence.

My 2nd grade son chose this book for a recent book report. I have to say, it's BY FAR, the best book that we've read on a president. Interesting facts, great illustrations and age appropriate text made it an easy read. I was thrilled when we finished the book with how much he remembered and STILL remembers months later about Jefferson. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Ordered for homeschooled grandsons.

This is a terrific book, just like the rest of the Landmark Books series. They give young children their first real exposure to the men and women who formed this wonderful country and made it what it is today!

My first-grader son loves these books. The amount of info is just right for a 1st-3rd grader. It's an older book, so it's not "dumbed down" as much as some newer books are.

I ordered this book for the pre school class and they are excited to read all the new books we purchased for the class.

This type of book is NOT my usual genre . I selected this book from Kindle First simply because none of the other selections appealed to me, and I liked the cover art.Let me first send a big thank you to to the authors for including a glossary of all the acronyms used in the book! Other reviews have discussed the plot so I won't go there. I was engrossed in this story from the very first page. The plot is, unfortunately, very realistic in this time in history. I experienced several different emotions during the reading of this book. I was fascinated by the plot twists and turns , saddened by the losses of life and the sacrifices of personal happiness made by the hero, fear because the plot was so realistic it could be a harbinger of events to come, and lastly, satisfaction at an ending well written.This book is so well written that the use of acronyms did not seem excessive, a reader not familiar with military lingo can easily follow the story.I am very much looking forward to reading more books by this writing duo.

I liked this book a lot. It did remind me heavily of Brad Taylor's Taskforce/Pike Logan series of books, along with Scott McEwen's Sniper Elite in that Kelso Jarvis and Bob Pope could be the same person.There was lots of action. Extremely well written. Which reminds me of Steven Konkoly.If you like Brad Thor, Brad Taylor, Dalton Fury, Scott McEwen, Mark Greater or Mitch Rapp, then this book is for you. The other reviews talk about plot, which is just as important but unless a book can keep the story going and entertain me at the same time, I don't bother reading it. A lot of authors add so much fluff to a story trying to set it up and the book plods down deep into an endless description of surveillance and nothing happens for pages and pages. This is a complaint I have on Brad Taylor's books. Thankfully though that is absent here. This book runs flat out on action or intrigue. No fluff or ennui here that distracts you. No lengthy description of some stupid wine the characters are drinking either (Yes Brad Thor, that is you).There is the usual descriptions of weapons, which as a gun guy I appreciate. The action scenes are well described. None of that stopping the story mid-gunfight to have a navel gazing moment of exostentialism and delve deep into our hero's wounded psyché about what it takes to be a warrior and the errors he's made (Yes Dalton Fury that was directed for you).The banter is on point too which is always good to read. A hallmark of Scott McEwen's/John Sandford style writing I love.This book also loves acronyms, bit if you have read any of the authors I've mentioned, then these acronyms are nothing to you and you easily translate them in your head without pause.I recommend this book highly and look forward to the next story.

Racing against time, will he and his team be able to figure out the plot and intervene before time is up?I love a good thriller, and Andrews and Wilson do not fail to deliver in Tier One. I found myself consistently engaged in the storyline and loved the characters, especially Jack Dempsey. The plot was so realistic it could have been ripped from the headlines (though thankfully it was not!). The action was non-stop, and the authors' writing style flowed well and was authentic to the events portrayed in the book.I was hesitant about choosing this as my August Kindle First selection I realize this is a bit silly, but I do tend to judge books by their cover, and I really did not like the cover artwork for this title. However, I was very pleased with the book and found it to be one of the best Kindle First selections I have read in some time. I am looking forward to reading future installments in this series, and can't wait to see how the characters will develop over time. The brotherhood and bond between the team members really added to the character development, and the authors also left room for some romance in future sequels. Thomas and Mercer have another hit series on their hands!

I'm not a romance reader, nor do I like the comedy types. I do read historic fiction, and Christian drama. I am a military veteran, USAF baby, but don't always read military drama as I find most to be over the top. All this to let you know what type of reader I am before you read my review.I loved this book. I read it in three days, and looked forward to getting back to it each day. This is the type of story and book I truly like to read.The author gave you just enough character development to let you know who they were, without the drivel and fluff that some authors tend to insert. I found the characters likable, and felt as if I got to know them as the story progressed. I also found the story line to be believable and quite relevant to the times. I enjoyed the use of and the description of the jargon and TLAs. (Three Letter Acronym)I found at the end hoping there will be a sequel to this book, and to my surprise, there is! As soon as I'm done writing this, I'm actually going to buy that one. That's how much I liked this book.Thanks for reading my review. I like to keep it short, just go read the book.

An interesting read for those curious about Japanese culture (me) and probably people in search of their own Japanese roots and identity (not me). The main character is a bit of a caricature of a millennial which makes her a little annoying at times and the graphics are too simplistic to my taste (I know it's intentional), but the search of identity is portrayed very convincingly.

I LOVED this book. The art is amazing as it always is but MariNaomi hits on so many feelings I've had as a half Japanese girl. I loved it.

Interesting bio, but average in story vs. a Fun Home

I picked this book up and wound up reading the entire thing in one day, as Mari Naomi's storytelling really pulls you into the narrative. I did so without being as familiar with Naomi's work as I would like, but knowing her work from various comics expos where I'd seen her talk. Overall, I really enjoyed Turning Japanese - it grabbed my interest right away and showed the author's talent for the comics medium.The visuals range from very simple to fairly complex, but they do so in the flow of the story - to draw attention to different elements and keep you moving through the autobiographical story. I think my favorite parts were the moments where Naomi used a strangely distorted perspective to draw specific places - It really gave a sense of the author's worldview and set apart those moments from the rest of the story. I highly recommend picking up this story of personal revelations by a really great contemporary comics creator.

It took me a while to get through this one. I felt she had all the bones of a great memoir, but the substance or takeaways of her experiences didn't always come through. Scenes or thoughts would often kind of trail off or end abruptly, which felt unsatisfying. That plus the overall slow pacing made this a boring, unfulfilling read. Though I did appreciate many of the peeks into everyday Japanese life.

I love Mari Naomi's spare, clean style. My favorite part of this whole book was Mari's navigation of the Japanese language, trying to communicate while living in Japan, and translating (or note) for her non-Japanese speaking boyfriend. What's said and left unsaid was a fascinating meta-narrative to me. This book is full of heart, and I loved it.

I truly loved this book! It's something like "Lost in Space" meets "Star Trek Voyager". Amazing characters that draw you into their lives and take you on their journey towards a new world! It has humans, externals, AI as well as a terrorist organization trying to stop them. Action-packed and full of some crazy things happening! I can't wait to read more! Great read!

What is not to like in this book Back alley brawls, who is actually doing the sabotage? What will happen when the Orion is damaged beyond repair? The characters are solid and well intruduced as the book progresses and The only thing I hate is the cliffhanger ending. So when is that next book due out.

Although there are hundreds of stories of space adventures aboard ship, there are not a lot of well developed space colony adventures. I have hopes of this series helping to fill that void. The main character, Dean, is one of those reluctant heroes that is dragged into play without his consent. I can see him doing great things for the colony and I look forward to seeing his relationship with Stacey grow. Will keep a watch for Book 2.

Another well written story! The next book in the series is scheduled for December. I look forward to reading this next chapter. I enjoyed reading this prequel!

This was a solid book overall. Chaney and Yanez are both good writers with other series that I've enjoyed, so I was excited to check out their combined effort and wasn't disappointed by the technical aspects of the writing itself. The premise was good and the narrative was well-paced, but I found that the characters lacked depth and I had a hard time getting really invested in them. The antagonists were actually far better developed and more interesting to me.

As if Cheney and Yanez weren’t enough on their own, you put the two together and the story reflects their innate talents as storytellers.I’m not going to give away anything in this book, but I’ll just say I read it quickly because it was excellent.

This story introduces to the "before" universe of the Renegade series. The story is informative, but lacks something in the way the characters are developed. The characters are too involved with each other too soon without any sign of wariness or distrust. There needs to be more development each major character. The plot line is good in concept and draws the reader into the story.

Both Chaney and Yanez are are decent writers. Working together requires some kind of extra effort and they seemed to have put it together. The book is fast placed, lots of action and decent character development. At this point it seems to me that the best character development is not with the main characters. We will see on the next book. I am looking forward to the next in the series

I have enjoyed all of the Dragon VP books. I think this is my favorite thus far. Imagine explaining the spirit of Christmas to an alien. It has all the misunderstanding and warm feelings you would expect.

Dragon-shifter Peridot is sent to earth to find out what is the spirit of Christmas. He has an appointment with a female named Karmel. When she doesn;t show up on time he goes to her to intervene in a scene an older woman is causing. Then when she asks for a reschedule, he reminds her a prior appointment she has. Then her friend who she;s to meet tells her she;s not even in the country but in Australia. So she convinces him to accompany her on her shopping trip. Only once klutzy moment turns into two and then three. Through all this Peridot is very stoic. Karmel decides she;ll get him into the holiday mood if it kills both of them. Meanwhile poor Peridot is trying to figure out why her smell is so intoxicating. On they continue with the shopping going from one catastrophe to another, from one misunderstanding to another. Peridot is totally confused when he still can;t figure out why he feels like he does and reacts to her as he is. Now what;s a human female and an alien dragon to do?Fantastic story and read!!!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This novella is another wonderful addition to this super enjoyable dragon shifter romance series. For full disclosure, this short story did originally appear in the anthology, All He Wants for Christmas as: Her Perfect Christmas Dragon. It has now been revised and some new content has been added. This Christmas themed romance brings us Karmel and Peridot's romance. There is so much sweetness in this book. It is impossible not to fall in love with both these characters. Peridot is all alpha hotness, with a side dose of grinch due to his complete lack of knowledge about everything Christmas. Karmel was his exact opposite, as she embraced everything Christmas with everything she was. Peridot is closed off emotionally and uptight, while Karamel is always exposing her emotions and is a chaos magnet. They have pain and issues that weigh heavily on them that must be addressed and worked through. I highly recommend this book and series. With powerful emotions, humor, drama, timely important themes, sweetness and steam all rolled into one delightful package, these books should not be missed! Me parece de particulr interes la descripcion de su vida en Córcega y su formación familiar dentro de la politica local que lo convirtieron en ese revolucionario que manifestaria en todos sus conceptos de administracion pública, no obstante termina con los conceptos dominantes del imperio, no obstante sus conceptos en su famoso Codigo Napoleonico sigue vigente en la gran mayoria de los paises con cultura europea (inclusive en los de America) con sus adecuaciones a las exigencias actuales. Sorprendente la descripcion de sus triunfos guerreros y finalmente la coalicion de los imperios que se tuvieron que unir para derrotarlo.Exelentes enseñanzas, historia relatada en forma sencilla e interesante, si inicias su lectura tendrás que terminarlo. Muchos de sus principios y conceptos siguen siendo vigentes.Es ampliamente Recomendable

This is a good book. I am listening it with my iPad while I am driving from home to work.Este es un buen libro. Lo estoy escuchando con mi iPad cuando manejo de mi casa al trabajo.

Muy buen libro para tener un panorama interesante del personaje histórico. Alterna su vida pública con la privada, su actuación como militar y como gobernante, de manera amena y con buen nivel de escritura. Muy apropiado.

Ameno. Riguroso en lo histórico. Gentil en el avance de la descripción de un hombre diferente, con defectos y grandes virtudes. Al fin y al cabo un incómodo para las élites y un salvador para las masas."... pobres los encontré y pobres los dejo... "

Fácil de leer, muchos datos y anécdotas de este genio militar y estadista. Recomendable su lectura para saber más y mejor.Muy bueno!
