This book was extremely well written. Luttrell did an amazing job at describing the environment and the people involved in the "story." It is a gut-wrenching and pivoting tale of the forging of one Patriot into a SEAL, and an account of the many professional Operators whom lost their lives that one fateful day defending this nation. If you are into war, history, strategy, and combat-related readings, I highly recommend Lone Survivor. It should be recommended reading for students at public/private educational institutions since it presents a modern first-hand perspective on war and the respect that our Armed Forces have earned and deserve. It is certainly more useful than drab history text books that cover entire wars/conflicts in a few paragraphs.Luttrell does not interrupt the rhythm with in-depth details ad nauseam ala Tom Clancy, but he does provide enough information so that the reader isn't completely lost. For example, he describes how he added 3 extra magazines to his standard loadout, his Oakley Assault Boots, the Mk 12 Mod 0 rifle with PEQ-4 and sound suppressor, and the position of the Taliban as his team is regrouping down the mountainside. A Clancy novel would have filled no less than 5 chapters detailing the luster of the moly-dry film coating on the Mk 12 receivers, the durometer of the Oakley Assault boot soles, etc... The book was also published before Lt. Mike Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Fascinating book! Puts us into the minds of soldiers and the brotherhood they adhere to in order to survive and in a sense are addicted. The alpha males and their domain - and I am very grateful for them and their sacrifice. (Spoiler alert) Marcus blames the 'liberal' media for making them decide to let the goat herders go instead of killing them. Ultimately it was the goat herders' release that led the enemy to their doorstep. My problem with this whole 'idea' was why didn't they just gag them and leave them on the hill - and then get out? The mission had been compromised. Hence this is my problem with the guy's premise that it's somehow the liberal media's fault that his buddies got killed? Really? My one complaint is the bashing of 'lefties' 'liberals' and the 'media.' I get the resentment, but I don't get the continual need for his book to go after the 'left' They aren't the enemy - nor is the right. . We are Americans at heart, liberal or right or whatever. Our tenets of freedom of press means we all have the right to speak our mind and our America is everyone's America. This great nation is 'great' because we adhere to a moral ground on certain things and that's important and it's important for the press to look for the stories of the disadvantaged etc. and yes, maybe what they see as abusive power by the military and no we haven't put the Navy Seals into jail for killing Osama Bin Laden - (and yes we had a 'liberal 'President in charge when it happened). The trained soldiers are trained to go into 'harms' way - the press is not - but they are the eyes we need to see the truth. As a navy seal, I would expect you to voice an opinion which was more balanced. I am a patriot too, because I know what our Constitution says - once we sink to the enemies level of 'hatred' and disregard for life - we loose the moral battle. Again, absolutely no disrespect to our soldiers in uniform - I support them and will continue to give money to the veterans groups I support - but PLEASE stop the liberal bashing. In fact, we become our own worst enemies when we make our fellow American's our enemies. I'm so tired of it.

This book was a tremendous story, and I highly recommend it. The horror this young man, and his buddies went through is hard to fathom. What our military put these young men through is hard for any common person to comprehend. It was amazing that he lived. He lost three of his best friends, and barely lived to tell the story. This book is a must read because for one thing, the movie that was made about his ordeal is not completely accurate. The story didn't need to be embellished, but the movie makers thought their vision of what happened was better than that of Marcus Luttrell, and they were very wrong. By reading the book, I knew what actually happened, and it was more intriguing than what the movie portrayed. Some people will never read the book so I guess the movie will give them some idea what it was like, but the book tells the real truth. Marcus' story telling ability kept me riveted to my seat, and brought tears to my eyes to hear what terrible things these young men had to endure. I hope that lots of people will read this book written by a remarkable young soldier.

Couldn’t put this book down. As usual the book is much, much better than the movie. Actually, the movie follows along with the books concepts and what Marcus went through but each event was different in the book compared to the movie.Also, there are a lot of lies out there about how many Taliban they faced. You have these disgusting journalist that want to put our military down and lie. According to eye witness accounts and the military records, Mr. Latrell and his team faced 150 to 200 Taliban. They killed over 100 of the Taliban. The lame and poor excuse for journalist say 32 Taliban and some have even go as far as to say that not even 100 could live in that area; wrong! The 32 number comes from how many Taliban were killed when they rescued Marcus.Read this book because the movie, is great, but doesn’t do the book justice.

Her mother was Perse, a sea nymph who was the granddaughter of the Titan Oceanos.We mainly know of Circe from the Odyssey and her interactions with Odysseus. She was known as a sorceress who lived on an island and turned men into pigs. We know from the Odyssey that Circe was often seen working at a huge loom surrounded by dangerous animals such as wolves and lions, yet they were all under her control. We also know from the Odyssey that Odysseus - by virtue of his wiles - not only avoids Circe’s sorcery but beds her as well. When he leaves she gives him advice on how to survive the perils on his seaward journey home to his homeland of Ithaca, such as Scylla and Charybdis, so he can reunite with his beloved wife Penelope and son Telemachus.So why did I like this book so much? Well, stand back, because I’m about to gush.I am a big fan of Greek mythology, and I was a big fan of this author’s previous book, The Song of Achilles. Yet this one was even better.Circe was not a major figure in the Odyssey; in fact when I first opened the book I realized I got her mixed up with Calypso. But I won’t make that mistake anymore. This minor character has now become my favorite character of all thanks to this author’s brilliant work.Because this book is told from Circe’s point of view, we get to intimately know her - not just her history and story but her thoughts as well. The reason this is so important is because we come to empathize with Circe. We tend to think of the Greek Gods as so fickle and often cruel - and indeed they are often depicted that way - yet with Circe, we meet a goddess who is so human and so very, very likable.The reason I made the “no spoilers” comment at the start, is because Circe’s experiences include her meeting and interacting with various other figures from Greek myth, and it’s a big part of the enjoyment of this novel to experience it the way the author intended, without knowing what is going to happen next.I took a few days to read this book but that was not because it was a slow read. Just the opposite; I was so happy while reading it that I would stop myself after each chapter just to pace myself so it wouldn’t end too soon.I highly (obviously) recommend this to any fans of Greek mythology and for sure to anyone who enjoyed The Song of Achilles. But you don’t have to know much about the Odyssey or Greek mythology to love this book. Although this novel is about a god, it’s really a story about what it means to be human.

{My Thoughts}What Worked For MeA Classic Tale Reimagined – Taking a classic story and reinventing it with a modern twist is nothing new. We see it time after time, but the usual reimagining places the characters and plot in a contemporary setting as the story plays out. With Circe, Madeline Miller kept the characters and the setting, and instead shifted the focus, placing it solely on Circe. Those of you with a background in mythology will see many, many elements from classic Greek mythology (especially The Odyssey) popping up in this book. However, if you’ve lived under a rock and never even knew there was such a thing as mythology it won’t matter. Miller gives you everything you need to know and she does it seamlessly.A Woman with Attitude – If you’re anything like me, you will come to adore Circe, the book and the woman. Born into one of the two most powerful families of gods, Circe adored her father, Helios, but never quite measured up. Where her siblings were gorgeous and powerful from an early age, Circe was plain and seemingly powerless. Tormented by her own family, Circe grew more and more fascinated with mortals. Falling in love with one, brought out her previously unknown powers of witchcraft.“I was too wild to feel shame. It was true. I would not just uproot the world, but tear it, burn it, do any evil I could to keep Glaucos by my side. But what stayed most in my mind was the look on my grandmother’s face when I’d said that word, pharmaka. It was not a look I know well among the gods.”This girl had gumption and she used her new power to punish her rival, creating a monster all came to feared. But, she paid a price for going too far. Circe was banished to the small island of Aiaia for eternity. This is where the book Circe really took off for me. On the island, I found it impossible not to admire and root for this woman who year after year, century after century, faced her fears, honed her powers, and learned to stand up for herself.“She was gone. But I said it anyway, to that great empty room and my son’s dreaming ears: “You do not know what I can do.”Soap Opera of the Gods – You might think a story of a woman alone on an island could get dull, but you would be wrong. Circe lived a lonely life, but was not without the occasional visitor, many bringing adventure and challenges to her life. Hermes flitted in and out with news and gossip from the worlds of gods and mortals. Her sister, Pasiphae, granted Circe temporary exile to help deal with her little Minotaur problem. Shipwrecked sailors soon discovered the wrath of Circe. And then came Odysseus, perhaps her most well known visitor, bringing to Circe a lasting love she was willing to die for. The level of drama never failed!That House – I really can’t say any more, but for those who have read Circe: I want that house!What Didn’tAbsolutely EVERYTHING worked for me in Circe!{The Final Assessment}Madeline Miller is definitely a writer to admire. Reinventing the life of a minor goddess into a remarkable woman while remaining faithful to the original mythology can be no small feat. Miller did it in the best way possible, by knowing her star character and sticking to her story. From start to finish Circe was all about Circe, no long tangents, no veering off into some other god’s story. Just Circe: her life, her feelings, her mistakes, her heart, her choices. I haven’t yet read Millers’s debut, Song of Achilles, but I will. I’m already looking forward to that next trip to ancient Greece. If it’s anything like Circe, I’m sure to find the journey immersive, entertaining, exciting, everything! Just incase I haven’t been clear, I loved Circe. She will be one of my top ten books this year. Grade: A

This book caught me by surprise. I was swept up in the tale of Circe, a goddess, and amazed by the simple truths of human life revealed. Madeline Miller captured both the beauty and bitter futility of being human, and I will be philosophically turning these thoughts over in my head for years to come. Timeless masterpiece that will only become sweeter with each read.

Miller has the expert’s eye and a storyteller’s touch - a female storyteller at that, which makes her remarkable among the other writers and rewriters of the classic Greek tales.Here, her gifts are used in telling the story of Circe, child of Helios and one of the lesser gods, the first witch of the world. She spins a tale of bravery, gullibility, fear and courage; she tells the tale of a goddess who has the heart of a mortal. I don’t want to give anything away and thus ruin Miller’s spellbinding tales, but it’s not a spoiler to say that I was astounded by the ways in which Miller was able to imbue her heroine with the same human frailties and fears as those of us mere mortals: the love of a mother, the burning shame of disgrace, the slow and fast at once finding of ones identity and center, the ways in which we all reach for more than perhaps we know, the giddy ness of losing ones fear and with it, the donning of grace and gratitude.Circe’s tales are big, and they’re writ large here. And yet they feel so real and common even as they burn with a strange fire.Miller deserves to be mentioned among the greats. Gorgeous pieces with just okay directions. I love this little book but I could have used more visuals for some of the projects. Had to wing it a bit, but they mostly looked like the ones shown. Probably better for getting ideas rather than following project directions - at least for me personally.

It has good, but limited information. It is - a “little” book. Not certain, if I would buy it again

The book is approximately 6" x 6" but has some nice projects. Most of the tassels are made entirely of beads and some are beads combined with silk thread hanging down. All the tassels are very nice. The "crusted" items are sewn on beads. Some crusted projects are wooden beads wrapped in ribbon and "crusted" and some crusted projects are tops of boxes. I am not sorry I ordered this book. I think the projects are very nice.

This may be a little book but it has Great pictures and instruction.sometimes small is more user friendly..so glad I took a chance on it..B.W.

The Italian soup recipe was interesting as it didn't have too many ingredients. But, it did call for parsnips which aren't readily available where I live.Don't let me discourage you as it is just my personal preference not to use too many ingredients when cooking.Highly recommended.Please note that I borrowed this cookbook using my Kindle Unlimited Subscription.

A Guide to Florida Workers' Compensation by Wade Coye is a very interesting book about what people who have been injured on the job need to do in order to ensure that they get compensated in the best way possible. This book is laid out in simple sections that make it very easy for the reader to follow along and understand what is being said. It is obvious that Coye has a strong background in this field and that he wants those who have been injured to have as much information as possible at their disposal. Coye goes into the paperwork that needs to be filled out and where it needs to go so that the process of getting compensation can begin. He discusses the timelines that need to be met and how to make sure that nothing slips through the cracks of the process. He then goes on to discuss what the law states companies need to do and then goes on to explain what they can do if they are so inclined. The sad reality is that many times insurance and companies will only do what the law says they have to do, which often is not very much. So, reading this book can increase the injured person's chances of not just getting the bare minimum but getting exactly what they need in order to make the best recovery as quickly as possible. This is not a ploy from the author to try and get more clients, he is honestly trying to make people as informed as he can so that they can do what they need to and get the compensation they deserve. If you live in Florida and have been injured on the job, I highly encourage you to read this book.

I’ve been through the ringer with a work-related repetitive injury—including a failed disability case and worker’s comp claim that left me without pay for a period of 6 months. After spending a year of effort appealing to both state and county programs as well union representatives on behalf of my debilitating back and neck injuries, leaving me unemployed, I was increasingly frustrated with the lack of validation and support I received.This book is by far the most eye-opening and helpful piece I’ve read about tackling a worker’s compensation case. I am so thankful I chanced upon this guide, and it has equipped me with tools and knowledge of worker’s rights that I plan to utilize to continue appealing my case (in another state). I highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling to get the workers comp they rightfully deserve, to all state and government employees to learn more empathy for the experience of the injured, and for anyone who wants to be fully aware of how to fight a claim if you ever find yourself in a similar position.

I also like that this book was written by an attorney who knows the laws in this state and can offer useful, legal advice. It is very important that the injured follow the timelines to get compensation which the author does clearly state. I also liked the "secrets" and "lies" portions of the book where there are some good facts and direction given. All in all if you live in Florida and have been injured on the job, I would definitely recommend you read this guide. It could lead to to a settlement or at least legal action on your behalf by offering facts and advice on Florida worker's comp.

I am not a biologist and (almost) won't comment on the content. But if spelling mistakes, ungrammatical sentences, missing illustrations and repeated texts are a turn-off for you, keep away, at least until the text has been thoroughly edited, in content and style.Here's one example of a really silly mistake: "The body is composed of cells that consist of thousands [sic!] of different chemical elements".Here's another: The list of "Anatomical Terms" appears twice, once before the illustrations and once after. In both, the terms are given as adjectives ("Axillary, Frontal, etc.), except for "Dorsum" (instead of "Dorsal"), for some reason.Lots of missing illustrations, for example all the illustrations in the chapter on "Basic Muscle Movement".I could go on, but you get the idea.

I have used this text as a tool when I tutor and the short direct points the authors make are easy for a high school student to grasp. Whereas other texts in A&P are well illustrated and describe many details, Vaughn's book hits the important points without additional detail. Whereas this book would not serve as a stand alone text it does allow the reader to reinforce concepts which the larger detailed texts have described but in a form that may be grasped readily. A very good supplemental text for high school A&P and undergraduate first courses in A&P.

I purchased this book to start learning about Medical Billing and Coding to help my daughter (a vascular surgeon) after I retire. She thumbed through the book and said it was very complete.

Really good beginners anatomy book. Very easy to follow and understand. Very basic and perfect for starting out.

I remember having anatomy and physiology during my nursing years. Interesting to learn things through the subject matter. Human body is a very unique creation that is thought-provoking and educational. Through this book I learn things that my professor unable to teach us. Sharing this to my colleagues in our nurse station.

It is a great piece of masterful information. I have been reading it and it is so good that the resources in it are readily available which really entices me about the book. The materials in are not only basic but they are also relavent and straight to the point. I think that it will important if there could be an audio version of the book so as to help students be able to correctly read some the tongue- twisted medical and scientific terms.Thanks.

hopefully it's a great book even if you retook anatomy and physiology or if you just want like a light read to freshen up your memory on a lot of things. It's a great source I've read it and it kind of helps me sometimes just to refresh my memory on certain body movements or how things work including that it's a great source for references when writing papers 2.

As the author points out this behavior exists among Anglos or others either not understanding or disregarding the code of conduct. In Argentina and other countries this has been the source of fights and other unpleasantries. Men, when you approach an escorted lady please respect and do acknowledge her partner. In essence, you are asking both of them for permission to dance with her. It's tradition and they will respect you for it.

Okay book, not as interesting as the title would suggest.

I have been dancing tango for about 5 years, and Id say that this is not a bad little investment for a person just starting in the world of Tango. If you have been dancing for a few years it probably wont tell you anything you havent already learnt the hard way. Of the 10 tips, a couple are common sense, but there is enough good information in there to recommend it to new tangueros and tangueras.

the book was light reading but it essentially covered the most important tips that could improve the learning of tango.

This tanguero cannot wait for the book!Alas, reading screens is all too much of a thingfor a poetry-loving leaf-turner, no pun intended.This mans words spiralled me into my first molinettesand allowed me to enjoy calecitaa un-bounded.I fully recommend it!Avoid the cock ups I and my lot made, in our timeFuerte abrazos tangueri!Cinque stelle ... 5 stars!

I highly recommend "The ten big mistakes people make when they learn tango". It is a bite size but extremely helpful insight. If you are serious about learning tango, and I mean close embrace tang, this is a great place to kick off. The top ten is really insightful. In particular tip 4 struck a chord with me.....found myself thinking "hmm, my teacher is both gorgeous and graceful but how is my dancing coming along???" Time to find a new teacher I think! I guess we can all get a bit stuck into the routine of learning steps and styles and this guide really took me back to the place where I started - what I wanted to get out of tango. Time to re-appraise my goals for sure. The writing is clear and redolent of this chap's love of the subject - a pleasure to read. A copy of "A Passion for Tango" on delivery too - not a moment too soon. Passion for Tango 2nd ed

A nice prelude to Mr. Turner's book, "A Passion For Tango" which I have already read and continually refer. Providing much needed knowledge in tango customs & courtesy in such a short read. Helps to give a beginner a jump start at the milonga and can also open the eyes of some seasoned veterans/milogueros.

You can also get most of the advises listed in this book from a qualified teacher. It is a good summery though.
