This is a good, basic book about Thomas Jefferson that goes a little bit deeper than an early reader. It's more of a beginning chapter type of book. It covers the basics of his life and is done in an easy-to-read way... but I just found it somewhat dry to read. Still, it's a good book for those being introduced to history. Nothing controversial in it, I felt like the author was fair.This book was recommended to me for my child's third grade history, so I decided to read it first before I handed it off to her. So comparing to many of the other history books I've been reading (a good 30 or 40 of them!), I definitely found this one a bit boring and dry. Which is why I gave it four stars instead of 5. But still, all around a good book that I could recommend.

However much I thought this book would help us dig in to a bit of history thus book did its job. However don't be surprised when you kid recalls details like how Jefferson built his house and his family details instead of anything to do with the Declaration of Independence.

My 2nd grade son chose this book for a recent book report. I have to say, it's BY FAR, the best book that we've read on a president. Interesting facts, great illustrations and age appropriate text made it an easy read. I was thrilled when we finished the book with how much he remembered and STILL remembers months later about Jefferson. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Ordered for homeschooled grandsons.

This is a terrific book, just like the rest of the Landmark Books series. They give young children their first real exposure to the men and women who formed this wonderful country and made it what it is today!

My first-grader son loves these books. The amount of info is just right for a 1st-3rd grader. It's an older book, so it's not "dumbed down" as much as some newer books are.

I ordered this book for the pre school class and they are excited to read all the new books we purchased for the class.

This type of book is NOT my usual genre . I selected this book from Kindle First simply because none of the other selections appealed to me, and I liked the cover art.Let me first send a big thank you to to the authors for including a glossary of all the acronyms used in the book! Other reviews have discussed the plot so I won't go there. I was engrossed in this story from the very first page. The plot is, unfortunately, very realistic in this time in history. I experienced several different emotions during the reading of this book. I was fascinated by the plot twists and turns , saddened by the losses of life and the sacrifices of personal happiness made by the hero, fear because the plot was so realistic it could be a harbinger of events to come, and lastly, satisfaction at an ending well written.This book is so well written that the use of acronyms did not seem excessive, a reader not familiar with military lingo can easily follow the story.I am very much looking forward to reading more books by this writing duo.

I liked this book a lot. It did remind me heavily of Brad Taylor's Taskforce/Pike Logan series of books, along with Scott McEwen's Sniper Elite in that Kelso Jarvis and Bob Pope could be the same person.There was lots of action. Extremely well written. Which reminds me of Steven Konkoly.If you like Brad Thor, Brad Taylor, Dalton Fury, Scott McEwen, Mark Greater or Mitch Rapp, then this book is for you. The other reviews talk about plot, which is just as important but unless a book can keep the story going and entertain me at the same time, I don't bother reading it. A lot of authors add so much fluff to a story trying to set it up and the book plods down deep into an endless description of surveillance and nothing happens for pages and pages. This is a complaint I have on Brad Taylor's books. Thankfully though that is absent here. This book runs flat out on action or intrigue. No fluff or ennui here that distracts you. No lengthy description of some stupid wine the characters are drinking either (Yes Brad Thor, that is you).There is the usual descriptions of weapons, which as a gun guy I appreciate. The action scenes are well described. None of that stopping the story mid-gunfight to have a navel gazing moment of exostentialism and delve deep into our hero's wounded psyché about what it takes to be a warrior and the errors he's made (Yes Dalton Fury that was directed for you).The banter is on point too which is always good to read. A hallmark of Scott McEwen's/John Sandford style writing I love.This book also loves acronyms, bit if you have read any of the authors I've mentioned, then these acronyms are nothing to you and you easily translate them in your head without pause.I recommend this book highly and look forward to the next story.

Racing against time, will he and his team be able to figure out the plot and intervene before time is up?I love a good thriller, and Andrews and Wilson do not fail to deliver in Tier One. I found myself consistently engaged in the storyline and loved the characters, especially Jack Dempsey. The plot was so realistic it could have been ripped from the headlines (though thankfully it was not!). The action was non-stop, and the authors' writing style flowed well and was authentic to the events portrayed in the book.I was hesitant about choosing this as my August Kindle First selection I realize this is a bit silly, but I do tend to judge books by their cover, and I really did not like the cover artwork for this title. However, I was very pleased with the book and found it to be one of the best Kindle First selections I have read in some time. I am looking forward to reading future installments in this series, and can't wait to see how the characters will develop over time. The brotherhood and bond between the team members really added to the character development, and the authors also left room for some romance in future sequels. Thomas and Mercer have another hit series on their hands!

I'm not an avid reader, as some who will review. I'm a casual reader, usually reading when I travel or occasionally at night. So I don't buy a lot of books, but I do download each month at least one title from the Prime group. This is the one I got in August, and just decided to read in December while it's slow at work.I do like to read suspense and thriller type books. I'm not a romance reader, nor do I like the comedy types. I do read historic fiction, and Christian drama. I am a military veteran, USAF baby, but don't always read military drama as I find most to be over the top. All this to let you know what type of reader I am before you read my review.I loved this book. I read it in three days, and looked forward to getting back to it each day. This is the type of story and book I truly like to read.The author gave you just enough character development to let you know who they were, without the drivel and fluff that some authors tend to insert. I found the characters likable, and felt as if I got to know them as the story progressed. I also found the story line to be believable and quite relevant to the times. I enjoyed the use of and the description of the jargon and TLAs. (Three Letter Acronym)I found at the end hoping there will be a sequel to this book, and to my surprise, there is! As soon as I'm done writing this, I'm actually going to buy that one. That's how much I liked this book.Thanks for reading my review. I like to keep it short, just go read the book.

An interesting read for those curious about Japanese culture (me) and probably people in search of their own Japanese roots and identity (not me). The main character is a bit of a caricature of a millennial which makes her a little annoying at times and the graphics are too simplistic to my taste (I know it's intentional), but the search of identity is portrayed very convincingly.

I LOVED this book. The art is amazing as it always is but MariNaomi hits on so many feelings I've had as a half Japanese girl. I loved it.

Thank you so much for another touching, sincere, well crafted book! Mari has a marvelous way of not over-sentimentalizing while still being poignant and engaging. You'll treasure every page. Buy this book!

brilliant, beautiful.

Interesting bio, but average in story vs. a Fun Home

I picked this book up and wound up reading the entire thing in one day, as Mari Naomi's storytelling really pulls you into the narrative. I did so without being as familiar with Naomi's work as I would like, but knowing her work from various comics expos where I'd seen her talk. Overall, I really enjoyed Turning Japanese - it grabbed my interest right away and showed the author's talent for the comics medium.The visuals range from very simple to fairly complex, but they do so in the flow of the story - to draw attention to different elements and keep you moving through the autobiographical story. I think my favorite parts were the moments where Naomi used a strangely distorted perspective to draw specific places - It really gave a sense of the author's worldview and set apart those moments from the rest of the story. I highly recommend picking up this story of personal revelations by a really great contemporary comics creator.

It took me a while to get through this one. I felt she had all the bones of a great memoir, but the substance or takeaways of her experiences didn't always come through. Scenes or thoughts would often kind of trail off or end abruptly, which felt unsatisfying. That plus the overall slow pacing made this a boring, unfulfilling read. Though I did appreciate many of the peeks into everyday Japanese life.

I love Mari Naomi's spare, clean style. My favorite part of this whole book was Mari's navigation of the Japanese language, trying to communicate while living in Japan, and translating (or note) for her non-Japanese speaking boyfriend. What's said and left unsaid was a fascinating meta-narrative to me. This book is full of heart, and I loved it.

I truly loved this book! It's something like "Lost in Space" meets "Star Trek Voyager". Amazing characters that draw you into their lives and take you on their journey towards a new world! It has humans, externals, AI as well as a terrorist organization trying to stop them. Action-packed and full of some crazy things happening! I can't wait to read more! Great read!

What is not to like in this book Back alley brawls, who is actually doing the sabotage? What will happen when the Orion is damaged beyond repair? The characters are solid and well intruduced as the book progresses and The only thing I hate is the cliffhanger ending. So when is that next book due out.

Although there are hundreds of stories of space adventures aboard ship, there are not a lot of well developed space colony adventures. I have hopes of this series helping to fill that void. The main character, Dean, is one of those reluctant heroes that is dragged into play without his consent. I can see him doing great things for the colony and I look forward to seeing his relationship with Stacey grow. Will keep a watch for Book 2.

Another well written story! The next book in the series is scheduled for December. I look forward to reading this next chapter. I enjoyed reading this prequel!

This was a solid book overall. Chaney and Yanez are both good writers with other series that I've enjoyed, so I was excited to check out their combined effort and wasn't disappointed by the technical aspects of the writing itself. The premise was good and the narrative was well-paced, but I found that the characters lacked depth and I had a hard time getting really invested in them. The antagonists were actually far better developed and more interesting to me.

As if Cheney and Yanez weren’t enough on their own, you put the two together and the story reflects their innate talents as storytellers.I’m not going to give away anything in this book, but I’ll just say I read it quickly because it was excellent.

This story introduces to the "before" universe of the Renegade series. The story is informative, but lacks something in the way the characters are developed. The characters are too involved with each other too soon without any sign of wariness or distrust. There needs to be more development each major character. The plot line is good in concept and draws the reader into the story.

Both Chaney and Yanez are are decent writers. Working together requires some kind of extra effort and they seemed to have put it together. The book is fast placed, lots of action and decent character development. At this point it seems to me that the best character development is not with the main characters. We will see on the next book. I am looking forward to the next in the series

I have enjoyed all of the Dragon VP books. I think this is my favorite thus far. Imagine explaining the spirit of Christmas to an alien. It has all the misunderstanding and warm feelings you would expect.

An heartfelt story with some funny and sexy parts!I really enjoyed this book. It well written and the characters are amazing.It's perfect to put you in the christmas spirit!

Interesting stories of what some will do for position and/or rank, or what they will not do. Fun read and enjoyed each one.

Dragon-shifter Peridot is sent to earth to find out what is the spirit of Christmas. He has an appointment with a female named Karmel. When she doesn;t show up on time he goes to her to intervene in a scene an older woman is causing. Then when she asks for a reschedule, he reminds her a prior appointment she has. Then her friend who she;s to meet tells her she;s not even in the country but in Australia. So she convinces him to accompany her on her shopping trip. Only once klutzy moment turns into two and then three. Through all this Peridot is very stoic. Karmel decides she;ll get him into the holiday mood if it kills both of them. Meanwhile poor Peridot is trying to figure out why her smell is so intoxicating. On they continue with the shopping going from one catastrophe to another, from one misunderstanding to another. Peridot is totally confused when he still can;t figure out why he feels like he does and reacts to her as he is. Now what;s a human female and an alien dragon to do?Fantastic story and read!!!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This novella is another wonderful addition to this super enjoyable dragon shifter romance series. For full disclosure, this short story did originally appear in the anthology, All He Wants for Christmas as: Her Perfect Christmas Dragon. It has now been revised and some new content has been added. This Christmas themed romance brings us Karmel and Peridot's romance. There is so much sweetness in this book. It is impossible not to fall in love with both these characters. Peridot is all alpha hotness, with a side dose of grinch due to his complete lack of knowledge about everything Christmas. Karmel was his exact opposite, as she embraced everything Christmas with everything she was. Peridot is closed off emotionally and uptight, while Karamel is always exposing her emotions and is a chaos magnet. They have pain and issues that weigh heavily on them that must be addressed and worked through. I highly recommend this book and series. With powerful emotions, humor, drama, timely important themes, sweetness and steam all rolled into one delightful package, these books should not be missed!
