About the Author
Adrienne Schaefer's love of nature and outdoor pursuits began at a young age, building forts and camping out with her family in the foothills of Washington's North Cascades. As she got older, her love turned into a lifestyle, and she decided to pursue a career in the outdoor industry.A bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation led her to a variety of outdoor-based jobs, including working for the National Park Service and U.S Forest Service as a trail crew member, wildland firefighter, and a climbing ranger on Mt. Already used this 5x over the Summer. Really informative, without making you feel like you need to be Cheryl Strayed. Love the sections and living in Seattle, all is a reasonable drive away.
Good selection of day hikes, but really like the section hikes.
Good trail info with a few maps and pictures.
Good reference book
I used this book quite a bit last summer on my hikes. It was fairly accurate and easy to read. I found the starting point with a fair amount of ease and difficultly level to be accurate.
Love the book, nice descriptions of the various hikes, I like how it's organized. I've only attempted one hike (Horseshoe Meadow). The directions to the trailhead are confusing and inaccurate. The directions from Portland say to take I-84 to Hood River and cross Bridge of the Gods……well I took this to mean head east toward Hood River and cross Bridge of the Gods…..you actually go to Hood River and cross the Hood River Bridge to the Washington side. After I figured that out somehow after Trout Lake I missed FR23…..not all was lost though; although I didn't find the Horseshoe Meadow trailhead, I did find Forelone Lakes and PCT trailhead 2000 to Blue Lake which I'm going to hike next weekend! Good information about the actual hikes, just check the directions before you head out!
