About the Author

J. Bryant Neville Jr. was a high school junior in 1981 when he became paralyzed from the neck down as the result of a car accident. Defying doctors who told him he would remain bedridden the rest of his life, he learned to navigate life in a wheelchair, earned two college degrees, and was hired by a local bank in his Virginia hometown, and he rose up the ranks to become executive vice president and chief financial officer. In 2011, he defied the odds again, becoming a father by natural means with his wife, Tanya. They live in Virginia with their three sons, Zachary, Joseph, and Kenneth.

How I Roll by Bryant Neville Jr. is NOT the kind of book I normally pick to read. But I noted it on one of the Top 100 Kindle lists for inspirational books and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad that I did.I was inspired by Bryant's true life story of how he has faced his disability head-on, from the young age of 17, when he was involved in a car accident to the present day, at age 47.I learned a LOT about the reality of what it means to live life in a wheelchair and how a person with a disability like this must learn to adapt to so many "givens" that we take for granted, like going to the bathroom, bathing, showering... etc, are now dealt with. Although I'm rather a squeamish person, I did not find these references gross or anything like that. I thought the book was well written, in a realistic but still for the most part, sensitive way.Bryant has an incredible family who really helped him to get to where he has in life, in spite of his disability. I was touched by the love that he conveyed for all the people who are close to him, including many friends who stuck by him, through the years. In that respect, Bryant is blessed so much more, than many people in similar circumstances.There was only one sentence that I found a bit surprising and insensitive and this was not in relation to Bryant's injury. It was in reference to a weekend at the Daytona 500 when one of the drivers was tragically killed in a race. When asked by a friend after the weekend was over, how things had gone and if he had HAD FUN, Bryant replied:"Absolutely! The seats were amazing and everyone had a blast."Wow, that didn't sound right and it bothered me, reading this. My husband also read this and said the same thing.Other than that, a good book and one that I definitely think would help a lot of people who are struggling with big challenges and adjustments in life, as Bryant has so capably done.I did not find the book preachy or overly religious. An auto accident at 17 broke Mr. Neville's neck but, thankfully, did not sever his spinal cord. The injury was so severe- and so high up- that even his ability to breathe was impaired. One doctor callously told him that he'd always be bedridden. But Neville had no intention of accepting that. He tackled physical and occupational therapy with gusto and managed to get back mobility in his arms. He went on to finish high school on time, earn two college degrees, and become not just employed but highly successful. So much for bedridden! He has achieved all that he dreamed of as a young man.This is the story of how he accomplished all this. He had faith that his life had meaning and that giving up wasn't in the plan. He also had an incredible support system in his family and friends, who were there for him every minute. While what he achieved was his effort, his life would been a lot more difficult without those people. He gives them full due.While the book is upbeat and positive, the author doesn't skip the grim details of what life as a quadriplegic (even though he has some use of his arms, he's not considered a paraplegic) is like; the physical therapy is brutal and the routines for emptying his bladder and bowels (and subsequent clean up) are challenging themselves. He was lucky in that computers were coming into common use when he was in college; an adaptive device allows him to do work on a keyboard that would be difficult otherwise. Neville is a man full of gratitude for whom the glass is definitely half full.

The author became a quadriplegic after a truck wreck at seventeen. He had three things going for him. The first was treatment at an outstanding facility in Virginia that specializes in working with wounded veterans. The second was a loving family and community that pulled together to get him back into his own home and to make it possible for him to attend college. The third was his own optimism and determination.This is a straight forward account of what it's like to live as a quadriplegic. Some people may find it TOO blunt and be disturbed by the details. It is also a story of what can be accomplished by even a severely disabled person given the necessary support. As a smaller percentage of elderly are ending up in nursing homes (due to better medical care and home care options) those spaces are being filled by young men who have survived vehicle wrecks which left them paralyzed. Unless we can develop systems to help paraplegics and quadriplegics return to society as productive members, a great deal of human potential will be wasted. This man has written a valuable book.

Quite the amazing story of a young man who thought his life ended with a spinal cord injury only to prove that life is your ability to make it what you want not based on the abilties you have. Ironically, part of proceeds from this book go to the NSCIA to distribute the backpacks, as a recipient of one of these, I Thank You. I can not fathom the treatment you received from your first neurologist, mine was so optimistic we question exactly what his meaning of 95% recovery is and the time frame, I am an incomplete C5 CCS 2 years out but I am a walker. Your B&B discussions in the book were quite a laugh, related to that. There is a website out of England you may or may not be aware of [...], a forum for SCIs of all kinds in Facebook form. Steven Cramer does an excellent job of relating gospel principals to his own personal life and lets those who are also in the trenches know that by applying the principals in his book that they can get out as well. I was unable to finish this book. Maybe, if I had a better understanding of the Bible i would be able to follow the plot. Maybe not.It says in the beginning that it is set in Leiden, but not until the 18th chapter does it say that is located in Holland.The quest to find the truth behind the Biblical story is impossibly confusing. The apostle Paul, changes religion, changes back; falsified ethnicity, changes back; betrays allies, repents, betrays again; all within a confusing time line.I was so lost i was unable to follow the main quest. But it did seem the character was able to work out the solutions and evade danger fairly easily.I would like to thank the publisher and NetGally.com for this book for free in return for an honest review.

I should have paid attention when one of the comments was "for fans of Dan Brown". I'm not a fan of Dan Brown. This book is confusing, absurd, laughable, childish and really irritating. Characters jump from place to place based on alleged clues that not even a genius could solve in seconds, like our hero does, even without enough knowledge of what the heck he's doing. Supposedly intelligent, educated scientists believe without any doubt the most disparate and infantile legends ever. The writer gets hold of St. Paul and turns him into a hateful, vile, despicable man swearing vengeance against the world for an accident that deforms his manhood, sending him in a path of destruction of everything he believed sacred before. For a motive to hate God, frankly, it is quite ridicule, but I'm not a man. All in all, a very disagreeable book. And, also, the author's writing is deplorable.

What in the world is going on here? It's Holland, secret tunnels, mysterious folks leaving clues about an alleged plot by Paul to start a religion to hurt Jews due to unrequited love - something like that. Lots of Bible quoting and pausing as if the author (or character) could mystically divine information unknown for millenia.It makes no sense and the Dutch setting is downright absurd. The runaround plot is so disjointed I actually got some paper and a pen to make a flowchart (gave up). Characters were boring and interchangeable / forgettable, dialogue stilted and bookish, action straight from a movie script and the research so bad it's embarrassing.Perhaps the worst offense was the scholarship. He quotes and uses equally Acts and the Letters of Paul. Yet Acts was written decades after Paul died and contradicts Paul's words repeatedly. The Paul who wrote the letters never talks about any miracle (his or Jesus) or visions or going blind. It's like someone citing the Wall Street Journal and the Onion as equal sources. At least Dan Brown's scholarship was spot on. My Grade - D

This was no Dan-Brown-like thriller. This was a mind numbing recitation of Bible passages that were supposedly leading our ?hero? to solve the crime/mystery. I suffered through half the book and then decided life was too short to waste more time on this drivel. Awful book.

It's not that I really didn't like the book, but I sure didn't love it. I thought by the name I was in for a real treat as I love this type of book with a catchy name and cover. I did not love this book.But,that being said, it did reach me in a timely manner and I always love that.

The story is set in modern Leiden, with excellent detail of the old buildings and history. The revelations of the mystical underpinnings of a secret sect is made, bit by bit, through very densely researched biblical analysis. Slow going at times, but worth the effort.

Exceedingly dense, presumes a great deal of prior knowledge of masonry, new testament and multiple ancient religious sects. It's interesting, but way too hard to read casually. Just couldn't get it going. Finished and wondered why I persevered.

So much thought provoking information spills out while following clues to this storyline. One cannot help but become familiar with an interesting city. Even the credits are as interesting as the story.

Honestly, Airbnb makes me nervous. Sleeping in a stranger's home or having a stranger sleep in my home is not something I'm comfortable with. It does intrigue me though, and I have thought about using a service such as this to rent out a home if I were to ever buy a spare house. So I decided I might as well read a book about Airbnb. This book has a lot of grammatical errors in it, but the information provided is good information. A lot of it is pretty basic information that most people would figure out on their own- ie; cleanliness, politeness, property maintenance, etc. But there are also lists of many different services that assist hosts with different aspects of the rental process. I wouldn't recommend buying this book when it's at full price, but when it goes on sale it might be a worthy investment for those interested in getting into Airbnb rentals or those who are just starting out.

You can probably find this same information in the library or free online doing your own research. I didn't learn anything new. I guess this is more for someone who hasn't started their Airbnb at all.

After reading this book, I find that common renters would not benefit from it. Mostly they are out to rent their homes, apartment, or rooms just to make extra income for themselves. I don't believe they would want to put out almost 15% of their hard earned money just to have a Website take it. The author also suggest that one can hire outside help to manage your own property, cleaning and photographer to attract more clientele ,and suggest to give out gifts. Really now. This would be fine if one owned a resort, inn, or hotel.Even then these big business have people whom have degrees on Business Management and do their own hiring to work for them.I found a few errors in grammar such as:Location 170 under Receiving Bookings the word "be" is used twice.Location 188 under Get Paid the word "chose" should be "chosen".Location 363 last paragraph, sentence 5, "like already" should be "like their already.Location 519 first paragraph 4th. sentence, the word cumwealth, should be commonwealth.Seems like the author got tired of this book, because it ends abruptly.I feel the author just needed to fill in some pages, since the author repeats himself twice, once at the beginning of the book and then again towards the end.

Not what I was expecting, his book did have some good information. But none of this applied to me. Having 59 pages total I'll definitely keep this for the future. I might just need it one day, I'm going to look into more books from Airbnb.

This is a solid middle-of-the-road guide. It's not all bouldering but it's not the same old suggestions. The book covers a wide geographical range and a nice selection of difficulties, so wherever you find yourself it points out nearby opportunities. There is enough information that you can decide whether a particular route would make a nice last minute outing.

Living in California, I never knew there were so many great places to drive my SUV. The trail descriptions in California Coastal Byways are extremely accurate, concise and helpful. I liked the photographs because they give a perspective on a tour. The list of resources, parks and places of interest in the back of the book is invaluable. I wish I had time to go on all the drives. Good job.

Have only done a handful of the trips described in here but those few i have done have been awesome trips. I'm not into rock crawling or extreme four wheeling and this book caters to the person that has a 4wd vehicle and would like to try it out. It has some small and simple maps to give you an idea of the trip but also refers you the best local map for that area along with campgrounds along the way. Just that information alone makes it worth it. Buy this book you wont regret it.
